We spent Tuesday morning looking around the very fascinating town of Winchester, following the old city walls and visiting the Great Hall to see King Arthur’s Round Table. Next, the old remains of 500AD Maiden Castle outside Dorchester. It was an impressive site, the size of many football fields atop the highest point the eye could see. However being 2,500 years old and made from wood, it was surprisingly (thanks to Lonely Planet for no heads up) unsurprising to find no remains of any buildings what so ever, just alterations to the landscape covered in grass, a few sheep and a hang-glider. Last stop was the coastal village Lyme Regis, on the Jurassic Coast, famous for fossil hunting. It was a nice quaint town, somewhat deserted though and the fossil hunting beach had been closed for two years now due to landslides. Time for lonely planet to take a rest I think.
